I Hate Schoenberg! Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival & Borromeo String Quartet Expose the Secrets Behind an Earsore!
February 01, 2006, North Chatham, MA – The music of Austrian-born composer Arnold Schoenberg (1874-1951) is either reveled in by some listeners or likened to the experience of undergoing root canal surgery by others. But don’t we think that maybe he’s just misunderstood?
Nicholas Kitchen, Artistic Director of the Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival and first violinist of the world-famous Borromeo String Quartet, will lead a pre-concert forum on Schoenberg’s String Quartet No.4 prior to CCCMF’s 2006 Spring Concert on April 29th at the Cotuit Center for the Arts. This is the second lecture in a small series that began in the Fall when the Borromeo performed Schoenberg’s 3rd string quartet in Wellfleet. Through live demonstrations and commentary, Mr. Kitchen will lead the audience through Schoenberg’s work and elucidate the great mystery behind his complex and intricate melodies and harmonies. This special event will take place at 6:45pm in the gallery adjacent to the auditorium. Any ticket holder may attend free of charge. At 8PM concert of Dvorak, Britten and, or course, Schoenberg will follow.
General Admission is $27, $24 for senior citizens, $15 for college students with ID and FREE to those 18 and under. Please call 800.818.0608 for tickets and information, or visit http://www.capecodchambermusic.org.
