200th Birthdays of Composers Chopin and Schumann to be Celebrated

North Eastham, Massachusetts, April 12, 2010—The 31st season of the Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival will kick off on August 2, and run through August 20, at five dispersed venues.

“Following last summer’s stellar season – which broke attendance records! – we are excited with the prospects of another remarkable season, that will build on previous successes, and strive for new ones,” said Jon Nakamatsu and Jon Manasse, who are returning for their fourth season as artistic directors. “We will be bringing back the acclaimed Tokyo String Quartet, composer/clarinetist Paquito D’Rivera – who will be reprising his stunning 30th season commissioned work, ‘The Cape Cod Files’ – and an artist roster of Festival favorites, including Amit Peled, Matthew Dine, Maria Bachmann, Bion Tsang, Carmit Zori, and Julian Schwarz.

“We will also be introducing exceptional new elements to the Festival,” the artistic directors continued. “For example, we will be showcasing the renowned pianist/composer Lowell Liebermann – a participant in earlier Festivals – as composer (and performer) in residence during the first week; and we will be hosting the Festival debuts of violinist Elmar Oliveira, and the Fry Street Quartet. In addition, throughout the Festival, we will be offering works by Frédéric Chopin and Robert Schumann in commemoration of their 200th birthdays, as well as diverse and distinctive pieces by other composers both familiar and less so.”

The concerts will be performed in five different venues – from Provincetown to Cotuit – to assure maximum accessibility to audiences throughout Cape Cod.
